3 things you may not know about me from just a glance…
1) I wish I was a more disciplined writer, the kind who shows up everyday not waiting for inspiration to strike. I know the words are in me somewhere but sometimes they are tangled up in distractions and doubts and the seductive promise of “later.” Sometimes I want anything more than to sit down to a blank page. I’d love to be like other writers who can do this on a daily basis. I don’t want the discipline for the rigidity but for the freedom I know it brings. I want to be able to honor all the stories that are asking to be told.
2) I’m a wife, sister, friend, stepmom, Grandma, and now I have become a great grandma. I like to think all of these roles have made me a more authentic (though sometimes nutty) woman, as I strive to lead with compassion and love. In life, I have discovered that I can inhabit vulnerability without apology and I can be strong without hardness. I know I fall short sometimes, but I vow to never stop trying.
3) It is a big universe out there and I am but a small speck in it. There are times when I feel NOTHING I do matters and that doubt can be heavier than I ever expected. Sometimes I feel like my efforts disappear the moment I offer them; absorbed in the loud noise of the world. That's when I step back and punt, doing something small but mighty within my own household or neighborhood; something to move the needle a bit toward the positive. This is new for me as typically I'd find myself in a vicious cycle of wallowing and regretting. Making small moves for me is far better than the overwhelm. Do you ever feel that uneasy space between wanting to matter deeply and not knowing if your presence is known at all?
Thank you for staying with me thus far. I’m glad you know me just a little better. Honestly, writing this was like my first confession as a catholic in second grade: a difficult release. I appreciate you, my lovely reader. Care to introduce YOURself? Remember, I’d like to hear more about YOU and your quilt stories so, I’d love for you to comment below so we can start a conversation!
